The Complexities of A Fair & Just Society: Race, Gender, Poverty, & Ai

"In the future it's very possible you could have an artificial intelligence system that can run the country better than a human being. Because human beings are naturally selfish. Human beings are naturally after their own interests. We are geared towards pursuing our own desires, but oftentimes, those desires have contrasts to the benefit of society, at large, or against the benefit of the greater good. Whereas, if you have a machine, you will be able to program that machine to, hopefully, benefit the greatest good, and really go after that." ~ Zoltan Istvan
"The deep paradox uncovered by AI research: the only way to deal efficiently with very complex problems is to move away from pure logic.... Most of the time, reaching the right decision requires little reasoning.... Expert systems are, thus, not about reasoning: they are about knowing.... Reasoning takes time, so we try to do it as seldom as possible. Instead we store the results of our reasoning for later reference." ~ Daniel Crevier
We are all working towards creating a fair and just society.
However, achieving this goal requires an in-depth understanding of the issues we face. It's important to recognize that problems such as inequality are often caused by a combination of factors rather than just one simple reason. We understand that location, education, and economic conditions contribute to this complex issue.
Applying one socioeconomic policy solution to fix a problem often doesn't work. We need to consider different perspectives and potential outcomes. For example, while raising the minimum wage might seem like a good idea to help workers, it could also lead to job losses for some people.
It's crucial to value everyone's knowledge and experiences, not just those in positions of power. By involving people from different backgrounds and communities in finding solutions, we can create better policies for everyone.
To build a stronger and fairer society, we need to invest in Kindergarten to College education, instill in people the flexibility to learn new skills quickly for jobs and careers in an artificial intelligence competitive world, and support small businesses. Equally important is the need to ensure our policies are working as intended and involve communities in decision-making. Your voice matters in shaping our collective future.
