"If we have a biometric exit-entry system, we know on the day after six months has exceeded his visa. And with that exit- entry system, we can then send ICE, the law enforcement agents that exist, to go and get John and say, OK, you're here illegally now." ~ Ted Cruz
"We will finally complete the biometric entry-exit visa tracking system, which we need desperately. For years Congress has required biometric entry-exit visa tracking systems but it has never been completed. The politicians are all talk, no action. Never happens, never happens... In my administration we will ensure that this system is in place." ~ Donald Trump
"The specific question was visa overstays.Current federal law requires a biometric exit-entry system when you come in on a visa. And the [Barack] Obama administration is just ignoring federal law. Forty percent of illegal immigration is not people who cross the borders illegally. It's people who come legally on a visa and never leave." ~ Ted Cruz
Our Canadian government is getting tips and learning from our southern neighbours, the American government and biometric AI companies.
The federal government is planning to use a facial recognition app linked to artificial intelligence and a database to keep track of people who should not be in Canada.
The mobile app uses biometrics to confirm the individual's identity and Canadian location and to determine where the individual has been in Canada.
There are some concerns about actual user consent and potential government secrecy on how they use this technology to make their decisions on specifically targeting people, mainly permanent residents and foreign Nationals, but subject to possibly extend to different individuals in Canadian society.
The federal government is hoping that people will download this government app. Once installed, the app will activate the location feature on the user's phone, sending their location, residence address, and movement directly to a federal government database, including employment information. This data collection is intended to aid in tracking individuals who are not authorized to be in Canada.
Suppose biometric face recognition, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing databases are highly proficient and accurate. Will the Canadian government extend this biometric software technology to other parts of Canadian society, such as targeting specific Canadian Citizens?
