Going Against The Grain Politically, Historically, Economically, & Culturally

The heart prefers to move against the grain of circumstance; perversity is the souls very life. ~ John Updike

You must realize that to swim upstream, to go against the tide is a risky but fascinating game, one of resistance at every turn, whispered criticism behind closed doors, and public scorn. Yet it is within the confusion of this stream of thoughts and ideas that the germ of genuine innovation lies. It is the maverick, the lone wolf, the outlier, that questions the assumptions and allegations, when the tribe follows, reinterprets the past, and challenges the economic belief system which grip the society.

Imagine yourself pushing through revolutionary policies, reviving lost heroes, or supporting economic models that contravened established wisdom. This is how one feels on the road of the honest independent higher thinking individual who refused to be taken up by the sea of conformity.

Understand, however, this path calls for psychological titanium resiliency. You'll be ridiculed, isolated, discriminated, and maybe even persecuted. But if you're smart enough to make it through the white-water rapids of opposition, you'll be leading the charge that changes the world: the forerunner of change, of better times, the precursor of rationalism.
