More Than Sovereignty: The Path to Resilient Strength

I watched and listened closely to PM Carney's Davos Speech today...
We must first quit "living within a lie" and engaging in pointless rituals in order to stay out of trouble or blend in if we are to be genuinely informed, morally upright, and powerful. Naming reality and recognizing the world as it is rather than how we would like it to be are the first steps toward true knowledge. A world without the light of knowledge is a dark place, and "each is as much as he knows," but knowledge alone is sterile if it isn't combined with bravery. By avoiding the "double folly" of possessing knowledge without sense, we become principled when we unite a sharp mind with good intentions.
This involves expressing ourselves in a measured manner, avoiding exaggeration, and upholding the "credit of good taste" by being truthful and constant in our standards. Lastly, our strength is rooted in our capacity to deal with pressure rather than just hard power. In order to avoid negotiating from a position of weakness, we develop this strength by investing in our skills, resources, and resilience. We transcend the exercise of sovereignty and begin constructing a foundation that is truly "bigger, better, stronger, and more just" by being both principled and practical.
