Inheriting a broken culture is a tougher job than building one from scratch and it takes longer.
Be patient and stay firm about the changes you're making.
It is very important to be aware of existing societal group culture may quietly try to pull you into its dysfunctionality rather than the other way around.
Think of it like a conflict but the enemy isn't any one person. It's the dysfunctional dynamic of the individual or leader or group.
What we often overlook is that membership in a dysfunctional group can itself produce instability and neurosis in somewhat healthy people. Sometimes the group does the damage.
Immersing ourselves in a healthy, high-functioning group can be healing, helping us become more grounded and whole and peaceful than we were before.
We tend to assume that people bring their dysfunction into groups, but groups also shape and distort the people inside them.
As we encourage and tell our children, choosing your groups carefully, isn't a minor lifestyle preference. It's one of the more powerful choices we have over our own psychological well-being.
