"Centralization of society's vital services in giant computer centers, reservoirs, nuclear power plants, air- traffic control centers, 100-story skyscrapers, and government compounds increases its vulnerability. ... choosing his targets, today's saboteur could pollute a city's water supply, dynamite power transmission towers, cripple an airport control center, destroy a corporate or government computer center." ~ Anatol Rapoport
"The twentieth century had dispensed with the formal declaration of war and introduced the fifth column, sabotage, cold war, and war by proxy, but that was only the begining. Summit meetings for disarmament pursued mutual understanding and a balance of power but were also held to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the enemy. The world of the war-or-peace alternative became a world in which war was peace and peace war." ~ Stanislaw Lem
The explosion of the Nord Stream pipelines on September 27, 2022, was an unprecedented environmental and geopolitical disaster.
Ruptures in both Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines freed significant amounts of methane into the atmosphere, experts estimate, hundreds of thousands of tons of methane escaped; thus, this has been considered the largest methane release ever from one single event!
It is widely suspected to be sabotage rather than an accident. Speculation and debate have centered on whether the CIA or another intelligence agency was responsible for blowing up the Nord Stream pipeline.
Journalist Seymour Hersh published a controversial report in early 2023 claiming that the United States, along with an assist from a NATO member nation, was responsible for the sabotage of the pipelines. The U.S. government strongly denied allegations, describing them as false and baseless.
Meanwhile, Russia has implied involvement by the West, and Western governments have pointed fingers back at Russia.
Separate investigations by Sweden, Denmark, and Germany have released scant public evidence, concluding that there had been deliberate acts of sabotage without naming perpetrators, quite interesting.
The truth may remain secretive, especially if the saboteurs are NATO member nations. In the coming months and years, more evidence will be disclosed and written about.
