Expansion of Trump's Executive Power

"When the legislative and executive powers are united in the same person, or in the same body of magistrates, there can be no liberty; because apprehensions may arise, lest the same monarch or senate should enact tyrannical laws, to execute them in a tyrannical manner." ~ Baron de Montesquieu

"The peculiar danger of executive power is that it executes." ~ Michael Parenti

"The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, selfappointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny." ~ James Madison

Emergency powers provide the president with access to a vast set of extraordinary powers that lie dormant during times of peace. Upon declaration of a national emergency, these powers can be activated with minimal congressional oversight and no judicial review. Although these powers were originally intended to enable the President to move quickly in response to surprise crises such as natural disasters, foreign invasion, or economic collapse, their use can alter the distribution of power in the USA.

In practice, these powers can allow the President to move with considerable autonomy, sidestepping the legislative and judicial branches. Increasingly, this present situation risks to impose a more authoritarian style of governance, in which one-way dictates replaces democracy.

The President, armed with sweeping and unaccountable emergency authority, can overwhelm congressional and judicial functions, weakening the system of checks and balances against the So-Called structured balance of power in the hands of one branch of government, The executive branch of the presidency.

Donald Trump has, since assuming office as president, invoked national emergency declarations on numerous occasions, and this has raised concerns among legal experts and lawmakers regarding the misuse of powers and eroding constitutional checks on executive actions.
