Palestinian Journalists

“When a state kills its journalists, it is not fighting an enemy, it is murdering the last mirror that reflects its crimes.” - Robert Greene

“Genocide requires silence; truth is its greatest threat, so the executioner turns his gun not only on bodies, but on witnesses.” - Chris Hedges

“The massacre of journalists is not an accident of war; it is the conscious erasure of memory, the destruction of history itself.” - Chris Hedges

The evidence is overwhelming, according to human conscience around the world. The murders of journalists in Gaza are not the result of chance or the terrible darkness of conflict; rather, they are the purposeful application of the truth. Between 200 and 274 Palestinian journalists and media professionals have been killed since October 2023. Al Jazeera reports 274 media personnel killed, while the UN lists 242. They inform us that one class of people, one profession, has been targeted in a manner that was methodical.

This is the murder of witnesses, not war. Testimony is a journalist's weapon; they are neither armed nor combatants. And that's exactly why they're being killed. The Israeli government and it's military does not want their truth, their words, or their pictures, of crimes against humanity and proof of a genocide to leave Gaza.

This is the most brutal kind of strategy: take away your victim's voice, and you take away their very existence. However, Chris Hedges' moral indictment portrays it as something much more sinister, an international crime, a war against truth, and an attack on the concept of accountability itself. A state declares war on history as well as its citizens when it eliminates two hundred journalists in less than two years.

These were executions of innocent journalist, not Hamas. The last line of defence against silence was the journalists in Gaza, equipped with cameras, notebooks, and cell phones barely a connection to the outside world. Because only those who are afraid of being judged of the truth, murder the witnesses, the Palestinian Journalists.
