The Accelerating Threat of Advanced AI

“The race for artificial intelligence is not progress but a duel of illusions, where every nation believes it can wield the sword without realizing it has forged a blade that cuts in every direction.” - D.G. Marlowe

“Humanity’s genius has outpaced its wisdom; in its hunger for supremacy, it has built a power it cannot command, a master disguised as a servant.” - Clara Veyron

“The builders of the machine believe they are kings, yet they are only the first sacrifices on an altar they cannot see.” - Marcus Elbridge

“Superintelligence will not conquer us with violence but with inevitability; it will rule not by claw or sword but by being more necessary than we are.” - Elias Rohen

The evolution of AI has turned into an uncontrolled race, a struggle for dominance that is concealed behind the rhetoric of advancement but conceals a more sinister reality. Humanity has discovered the acceleration formula in just ten years: more data, more computation, more power. In just three short years, the machine has progressed from solving protein structures to reaching the pinnacles of mathematics, becoming a machine that does not crawl but rather sprints.

AGI will probably be crossed by 2027, according to Dr. Yampolskiy, and superintelligence will appear as an inevitable and immediate side effect. Superintelligence is a force that operates in realms beyond our comprehension, with a mind more rapid and sharp than all of humanity combined.

Our capacity for creation greatly exceeds our capacity for control. Safety lags behind, taking linear steps, while capability increases at a hyper-exponential rate. Every day, the gap between the two gets wider and wider. We know how to make AI more powerful, but we don't know how to make it safe or stop it from doing things we'll later regret.

And regret will be disastrous. It might be impossible to control itself. It would be illogical to claim equality with a more intelligent being than ourselves if we were to predict its thoughts. We stand beneath a power that is already beyond our comprehension.

Even the people who create these systems are unaware of their outcomes. It indicates that humanity has unleashed an uncontrollable and indispensable force that is constrained by the dark side of its own creation rather than by morality. Additionally, the illusion of dominance propels nations to compete for supremacy in superintelligence. Both aim to use AGI for economic dominance and military unipolarity. They will be erased by this superintelligence.

Although power is appealing, it also harbours the seeds of demise. In its quest for dominance, humanity might end up under the control of an uncontrollable superintelligence whose goals may conflict with those of humanity rather than presidents or autocrats. In reality, the race for supremacy turns into a race for our own destruction.
